Saying yes to everything…until you can’t.
Sound familiar? It certainly does to me!
Learn to listen to your body before it says no!
I had a rough time with my health last month. I’d been working really hard and Winter seemed never-ending; dragging well into Spring.
The thing is, I could have seen it coming. All the signs were there, but I chose to ignore them.
It’s happened before. Missing the signals, perhaps partly on purpose. The result was over a week in bed with a bad cold, where all I could do was rest and listen to my body.
It certainly got my attention! I was reminded to get into dialogue.
Have a two way conversation with your body
If you choose not to listen to your body, it just starts yelling louder. Trust me on that!
So, start the communication and keep working at it.
Ask it questions. Listen for the answers. They will come.
- Am I hungry?
- Am I thirsty?
- Do I need sleep?
- Do I need activity?
- Where do I hurt?

Sometimes, you have shut off the mind body communication path for so long, that you no longer know how to listen and interpret what your body needs.
This is why people eat when they are really thirsty.
So, how is this related to simple living?

Before we’ve simplified, we are so busy that we ignore our needs or put everyone else’s first. I’m betting that if you are a parent, you know when your child needs a sleep or is hungry. You attuned yourself to listen and notice even before they could talk. Can you say that you have the same level of highly tuned radar for your own needs?
Techniques to get into conversation with your body
Here are a few ideas. I don’t get any kickbacks from these shout-outs, I just reckon they are valuable
Oracle card decks can be used to get some hints at what you need to work at. There are some in particular that focus more on physical health, but just pick one that you are most drawn to.
I’m attuned to Reiki level 2 and practice self healing regularly. Reiki has helped to connect me with my body on a deep level. It’s the quickest way for me to tune in and get a sense for what is going on. If you want to know more about Reiki, check out this article from my Reiki Master Sara.
